As someone who’s been teaching/immersed in the L.A. yoga community for the last 22 years, I was nodding all the way through this. There is so much spiritual bypassing and desperate clinging to positivity, along with judgement about the myriad ways people need to take care of themselves, which is ironic considering the practice ought to be about compassion and keeping one’s own side of the street clean. It’s a daily practice, not a cure-all. I learned a long time ago to keep my head down and mind my own practice if I didn’t want my brain to implode. Loved this, LC

What you mentioned in your comment, about how our practice is supposed to be about ourselves, not as a way to judge others' practice, resonates for me a lot. I've been frustrated with the very common tendency amongst spiritual practitioners - regardless of the specific practice - to use what are supposed to be guidelines for personal practice to instead create hierarchies of value on how other people use those same guidelines. I used to live in LA, and, if memory serves, was at your studio for a benefit for Homeboy Industries. I never took a class there, not because of anything I found lacking (it seemed like a very grounding, accessible, comfortable space) but because at that point in my practice I was very timid and hypervigilant about practicing in spaces, and with teachers, whom I didn't already know. But I heard consistently good things about you and your studio, and regret that I never made it there before I moved out of California. So thank you for your presence here! 🙏🏼
